Go Green Campaign Activities
As a response to the issue of environmental problems and the impact of global warming, the UMM Agribusiness study program is committed and strives to find alternative solutions to these problems. In fact, Indonesia now produces 9.85 billion pieces of plastic every year, some of which come from modern retail outlets. Various products with plastic packaging produced by the modern retail industry contribute at least 90,000 plastic waste every year. Through research conducted by UMM Agribusiness Lecturers, it was found that one of the efforts that can be made by modern retailers to reduce the use of plastic waste is by implementing the concept of Green Marketing.
Green Marketing is a concept or policy to create promotions, product packaging, to the concept of environmentally friendly product places. As an effort to introduce and campaign for the Green Marketing concept, the UMM Agribusiness Study Program held a National Webinar with the same theme, entitled “Green Marketing as One of the Solutions to the Mountains of Plastic Waste”. The National Webinar was held online on October 30, 2021, at 09.00 WIB live through the zoom application. The webinar was attended by 116 participants from 28 Senior High Schools / Equivalents and Vocational High Schools in various regions in Indonesia. These schools include those from areas in Java Island, Sumatra Island, and East Nusa Tenggara. The Green Marketing material in this activity was delivered by one of the Agribusiness study program lecturers, namely Livia Windiana, S.P., M.Agr., while the topic of waste management was delivered by Sri Nurwati, S.P. who is a teacher of SMKN 2 Agribusiness Probolinggo / SMKN 1 Mlarak.
M. Zul Mazwan, S.P., M.Sc, one of the UMM Agribusiness Study Program Lecturers said that through this activity, it is hoped that the concept of Green Marketing as an alternative solution to reduce plastic waste can be increasingly recognized by the general public so that both consumers and producers in the future agree to choose products with environmentally friendly concepts so that plastic reduction in Indonesia can be massively carried out by both consumers and producers. This activity is also to promote UMM Campus, especially the Agribusiness Study Program.
