September 30, 2024 - Students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang are currently participating in a Summer Camp taking place at Guangxi Normal University, Guilin City, China. This event is not only attended by UMM but also by other universities, including Brawijaya University, Malang State University, and Bina Budi Mulia School. This Summer Camp activity will take place for 14 days from August 17 to August 31, 2024. The purpose of this Summer Camp is to introduce and study Chinese culture, language, business skills, traditional Chinese food, etc., as well as to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood between China and Indonesia.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang sent its two best students, Laila Noviyanti Sitepu and Anggun Maysyarah V.U., from the Agribusiness Department, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture. The Summer Camp participants were also directly accompanied by their supervising lecturer, Dr. Masuduki, M.Pd. In addition, this activity takes place in 2 different cities: first in Guilin City for 7 days and second in Nanning City for 8 days.
The first activity was the opening of the Summer Camp at Guangxi Normal University. And it continued with basic Mandarin classes, lectures on ECommerce theory where in this lesson we learned that online sales in China are very profitable and they also pay attention to and continuously update high-quality photo or video shooting techniques. They were also taught to decorate fans, which are one of the Chinese cultural symbols of power. In addition, we also visited Chinese cultures starting from Jingjiang Prince’s Palace, Xiangshan Park, Osmanthus Commune, Dongligucun Scenic Area, Guihai Inscription Museum, and also played enjoyable ethnic games. In the second city, Nanning, we learned a lot about Chinese cultural arts, such as making Chinese knots, Chinese medicine culture, and Guangxi folk culture. And for theoretical learning, cross-border e-commerce theory is taught.
This activity was very memorable for both outstanding participants from UMM Agribusiness. Besides being their first time in China, they were also able to create unforgettable memories with all the new experiences they felt from the departure process until finally returning to Indonesia. Where the two different cities, Guilin with its enchanting natural scenery, and Nanning with its technological advancements, are located. Both are a blend of cities that are perfect for understanding how Chinese culture and technology complement each other.
