The Agribusiness Study Program was originally established as the Department of Social Economics. This study program first operated in 1984 based on an operational permit from the Kopertis Region VII East Java Coordinator's Recommendation Letter No. 2076/Kop.VII/Q/1984 dated 15 December 1984. Registered status was obtained on 18 February 1985 based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 070/O/1985. The upgrade to Recognized status was obtained on April 25 1992 with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 134/DIKTI/Kep/1992. Equal status was obtained on September 28 1995 with the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 149/DIKTI/Kep/1995.

Changes from the Socio-Economic Study Program to Agricultural Socio-Economics due to changes in demand for educational services. In the end, the Agricultural Socioeconomic study program was accredited on August 11 1998 with a grade of B based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Body No.01162/Ak.1-1/UMMSTE/VIII/1998. This study program is an Agricultural Social Economics study program that manages the largest number of students in East Java. In line with developments in the situation and needs of stakeholders, this study program has since 1998 used the name of the agribusiness/Agricultural Socioeconomics study program, accompanied by relevant curriculum improvements.

Based on the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education, Department of Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia Number: 163/DIKTI/Kep/2007 concerning Structuring and Codification of Study Programs in Higher Education, the name of the Agribusiness Study Program is determined. In 2009, the Agribusiness study program obtained "accredited" status with a good grade (B). On November 22 2013, based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education Number: 237/SK/BAN-PT/Ak-XVI/S/XI/2013, the Agribusiness Study Program obtained accreditation status with a Very Good (A). Then it was accredited A again on December 19 2018 based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education Number: 3427/SK/BAN-PT/Akred/S/XII/2018. On December 5 2023, the Agribusiness Study Program was declared "Excellent" accredited based on the Decree of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education No. 5123/SK/BAN-PT/Ak.Ppj/S/XII/2023.
